Policies Regarding Religious Organizations and Individuals
Approved by the Board of Advisors to the Charles E. Hayworth Sr. Memorial Chapel, September 28, 2006.
Approved by the Student Life Committee of the Board of Trustees, Fall 2009.
Only organizations sponsored by the Student Government Association and/or the Dean of the Chapel of HPU shall have access to student rosters and student mailing lists. These will be made available to the group’s faculty advisor. Individual churches and other organizations should contact students through the Office of Student Life or the Dean of the Chapel.
There is to be no distribution of religious material and literature to all students through campus mail. There are to be no direct handouts to all students on the campus of High Point University.
Student Government Association and chapel sponsored religious organizations may post flyers and signs campus wide. Other individuals and organizations may give notices and flyers for posting on 8 1/2 X 11-inch paper to the Office of Student Life or the Office of the Dean of the Chapel. This material will be posted on designated bulletin boards (one in the Chapel and one in the Campus Center). A table will be maintained in the hallway of the Chapel where outside groups may leave multiple copies of promotional materials.
Representatives from individual churches, denominations and faiths need to be approved by the Dean of the Chapel before contacting individual students or individual organizations. Any information on file concerning religious opportunities is available to any student upon request. The key is that the effort must be student initiated.
Individuals belonging to or representing organizations that are not sponsored by the Student Government Association or High Point University shall not present themselves to campus groups in either a liaison or leadership role.
