HIGH POINT, N.C., April 17, 2012 - Elementary students from Montlieu Academy of Technology filled the High Point University campus today for the annual Spring Carnival, a fun and educational event that HPU students organize for the children each year.
The carnival, led by the HPU Volunteer Center, was full of many activities, including inflatables, face painting, crafts, lunch and more.
A highlight of the event was a scavenger hunt using Apple iPads. Children went from sculpture to sculpture, scanning QR codes that led them to information about different figures on campus, such as Albert Einstein, Amelia Earhart and more.
The children were previously trained to use the iPads, thanks to a partnership between HPU and Montlieu Elementary. The iPads, which were funded by four partners - HPU, Businesses for Excellence in Education, the William B. Millis Fund of the High Point Community Foundation and the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation - were revealed to students on the first day of school this year.
"This year's children's carnival was a great success," says Maggie Sturdevant, Volunteer Center coordinator and junior at HPU. "The elementary students truly love the event and have a blast being on campus. And, of course, we couldn't have held the event without our amazing volunteers. We all had a wonderful time."
