Civic Engagement - Overview
Mission of the Civic Engagement Program
The mission of the civic engagement program is to increase students' understanding of their diverse responsibilities as stewards of their communities by:
- providing students with opportunities to participate in activities that contribute to the public good;
- encouraging students to reflect on their experiences as a means of making more permanent the practical lessons they learn in the field;
- instilling in students an awareness of the mutually beneficial relationship that exists between social institutions and centers of higher learning;
- teaching students to think critically, speak clearly, and write effectively as a means of becoming productive members of society.
