Study Abroad - Foreign Language Programs
The programs below offer intensive language study and cultural immersion. The liberal arts courses at these institutions are taught primarily in the country's native language. Therefore, a certain proficiency in the language of the host country must be attained before a student can be considered for some of these programs.

Austria
Salzburg: University of Salzburg
Few countries could be more exciting to study in than Austria, a peaceful democracy with cultural and economic ties in both eastern and western Europe. With the Alps at your doorstep for outdoor fun and the works of Mozart, Haydn, and Strauss in the background, students can explore the history, culture, and natural beauty of this central European country.
Terms available: Fall—Mid-September to Mid-December
Spring—Early February to Late May
Requirements: 2.8 cumulative GPA, 2.8 major GPA, 3.0 for German majors/minors, Junior status
Application deadlines: March 1 for Fall September 15 for Spring
Housing: Home stay with a local family, or University residence hall. German majors/minors must home stay.

Ecuador
Quito: Universidad San Francisco de Quito
USFQ is one of the most distinguished private universities in Ecuador. Currently, the university consists of an intimate campus with all of the educational buildings centrally located. USFQ is a liberal arts university that is based on the American University system. The academic programs range from gastronomy to tropical ecology, thus offering a wide variety of classes. It also boasts a successful Spanish as a Second Language program for students interested in learning and practicing the language. *Requires language proficiency*

Paris: Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne
Nestled in the heart of Paris, Sorbonne is an incredible venue for studying French language and culture. The North Carolina Consortium Semester in Paris is a long-standing, high-quality academic program that takes full advantage of the opportunities in the City of Light. *Requires language proficiency*

Germany
Heidelberg: Schiller International University
Heidelberg provides an exceptional study environment, where more than six hundred years of academic tradition underpin the latest ideas and innovations. Nowhere is education taken more seriously, or pursued in such charming surroundings. In Heidelberg you can stroll, muse or network where university professors and scholars have walked and talked for centuries. Students may enroll in a program in German language and culture courses or a program in international business/marketing.

Requirements: 3.0 cumulative GPA, 3.0 major GPA, Junior status, 4 semesters of college-level German for language/culture program

Italy
Rome: American University of Rome
The Rome program is designed to provide students with a unique living and learning experience in "The Eternal City." Students take 12 to 16 credits, including one course in Italian language, offered at all levels. The university offers coursework in Italian Language and Literature, Art History, Communications/Media Studies/Cinema, History, Political Science/International Relations, and International Business.

Japan
Nagasaki: Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies
Students in the Nagasaki program will complete coursework that complements, reinforces, and enhances the intercultural experience. Students study Japanese language (beginner to advanced) and choose from traditional arts, history, culture, literature, business, economics, and society. Seminars in Traditional Japanese Arts are intended to deepen the student's appreciation through hands-on experience.

Spain
Seville: Spanish-American Institute
Students accepted into the Seville program will complete coursework while living in home stays and conversing with a native Spanish speaker. Therefore, classroom experience complements, reinforces, and enhances the intercultural experience. Students choose a study concentration: 1) Intensive Spanish Language, 2) Liberal Arts, 3) International Business, or 4) a combination of Liberal Arts and International Business. Every student is assigned an intercambio partner, a native Spanish speaker with whom the student meets at least once a week to practice conversational Spanish and to learn about the culture.
